Discussing sustainability at the Stanford University Next Gen Family Office Initiative

It’s said to be one of—if not the—greatest business opportunities in human history. The transition to sustainable energy and technologies, the decarbonization of our economy, the shift in mindset that prompts business, government and civil society leaders to proactively seek out sustainable solutions that will put the planet on a path towards a brighter future.

But if the synergies between sustainability and entrepreneurship are so obvious—and the profit potential so apparent—why has it taken so long to address climate change with sustainable solutions? It’s a pressing question that The Sustainability Leader’s Richard Blundell posed during a recent talk at the Stanford University Next Gen Family Office Initiative, a must-attend gathering designed to help future investors make sustainable investing decisions.

In the presentation, Richard shares his views on sustainability being a journey with no end, while highlighting several sustainable business success stories, including the extensive work carried out by Atlanta-based flooring maker Interface to transform its business processes and achieve an ambitious zero-emissions goal. He also outlines the three primary approaches that companies can embrace to get to net zero: taking cost and carbon out of operations and supply chains; employing sustainability as a source of innovation to drive new circular growth; and behavioural change (the most difficult of the three).

Watch the rest of Richard’s talk and explore the unprecedented investment and business potential that can be unlocked when organizations embrace sustainable solutions.
